I think a sudden Strat warmup happening now has more Fall affects but that may trickle down to winter.

It simply means higher chances for blocking (negative NAO) (cooler than normal East U.S).

There's a lag time for it. So a "sudden" warmup in the stratosphere will help develop High latitude blocking down the road

So many other cards in the deck AND the warmup locations matters too.

This winter will be more interesting than the last, no doubt about it. The previous one was really dull. Record breakingly cloudy with few storms or cold waves, just a boring drag.

Lapland already got its first snow, the wait begins.

We had a sudden strat warming in late January, and the effect here in the Midwest were felt through February, March and even into April.

Yup.. a little too late for my liking but that was result from it. In 2011-12 the warmest stratosphere anomalies were over Asia not North America so we didnt benefit from a cold/snowy winter. Everything is all interconnected but thats whats great about weather... there's so many factors it keeps you busy all year. LOL

What we need now is a major volcano to erupt now, then the other factors dont have to happen exactly as they should. lol.

Yeah I think there was an eruption somewhere in the early 90s which caused us to have a cold fall and winter. Or we could have another year without a summer! JK. I read somewhere that Savannah, Georgia had a high of 46 on the 4th of july!

Look into Mt Pinatubo effects. Pretty fasinating. Then look into Mt Saint Helens and other major eruptions.

I studied volcano eruptions for a while. It's not only the height of the ash that affects local weather or climate.....but its the type of ash. Was it Pumice, glass shards, Crystals or Other rock fragments.

Even Icelands volcano in 2010 had affects but it wasnt as large scale as the past eruptions that were larger

Looking forward to winter - I am already deathly bored of summer due to no interesting weather occurring ever during the worst and most uninteresting season of the year by far.
