The mean temp for the 8th October would only be about 2-3C above average if that forecast is correct.

Is the average high for the first week of October something like 17C in London?

For Chicago/Midway the average high on October 1st is 21C but by October 7th it's 19C. My suburb which is 35 miles from Midway, the average high on October 1st is 22C, and by the 7th, it only drops to 21C. Cooling Lake Michigan effects the city proper more...

Assuming the temperature decrease from mid-September to mid-October is linear, the average high at the start of October is 17.7C, 15.5C by mid-month and 13.2C at the start of November.

That would make the average for 8th October around 16.6C/9.2C, mean 12.9C.

You guys in the Lakes seem to be having really nice fall weather this year. In fact, most of the mainland seems to be stuck in the pattern of dry high pressure, sunny skies, and warm to hot temps....except for the flooding they had in CO a few days ago. This is todays forecast highs:

And the forecast holds virtually no chance for a frost, and plenty of highs in the 60's and 70's......
Your forecast looks like a nice run of fall weather! Enjoy.

Here's mine locally. Our first frost is normally not until early November around the coast of the NY/NJ/CT area. This week is week number 3 of bone dry air, stable weather, and wall to wall sunshine. I feel like I'm in Miami in January :

Temps can drop below feezing in the coming nights and there's a possibility of light snow. Quite nice to go from 21°C to snow in less than a week. Fall Siberia style.

The conversation was about London.

18C in early October in London is not 'very warm'. It happens multiple times every year. Even 20C+ is seen in most Octobers. London has seen Octobers warmer than your July or August.

Sleet and snow this morning in Northern Karelia near the Russian border. Elevation 200-300 meters (600-900 ft).

Not much really stuck, though. Nearby road cam during the afternoon:

Another picture:

Fall colors and snow looks just plain stupid. Northern Northern Karelia get's their first snowfall usually in the last days of October, low lying areas in early November, at least a full month early.
