some leaves are starting to change here, a few have less than half green remaining. Not many but still early. The few weeks of cool and dry weather from the end of july to the middle of august might be to blame. Last year some trees turned in june and july due to the heat and drought.

Typically with a 964mb low inside a cold trough with 850s below freezing you would think there would be a blizzard over the Hudson Bay there… but, it’s September, AND, I thought I check the water temps and sure enough they are well above normal. So the warm body of water isn’t going to allow snow to fall over there.

Even the snow accumulation maps aren’t picking up snow over the Hudson Bay.

But this is pretty cool to see Sept 6th time frame :-)

It hardly ever snows at sea level with below freezing uppers.

Infact in the summer we can get 16/17c with -3c uppers. The only time that would be possible if there was alot of very heavy rain which would create alot of evaporative cooling.

Euro00z for August 31st time frame. With 850s below freezing and a 976mb low passing through, a Rare August snowstorm is headed for Iceland.

Blog from Mark Vogan (lives in UK) explains:

" Here’s the upper chart and 850mb temps. The upper low is literally positioned directly over top of the surface low and this looks to be a very well organised and unusual storm for late August even though this fairly high latitude can and does seen deep lows at this time of year. It’s the cold that comes with it which could well grab weather headlines this weekend bringing a rare late August snowstorm to Iceland.

I am particularly interested in a low which will cross Greenland mid week and sets it’s sights on Iceland Friday into Saturday, deepening on approach. This system will have some very cold air attached and while strong to gale force winds will likely be a significant feature, the most noteworthy aspect to this storm which pressure down to the mid 970s in millibars, could be the cold temperatures and SNOW.
Check out the depth of the low and it’s howling northerly winds Saturday morning along with heavy precip also"

Which do you believe?

Hr 216 (next Wednesday) GFS has a Canadien 1027 High Pressure going over New England, Euro has a 1021 HP over the Ohio Valley.

But take a look at the temp differences.

Euro has the 850mb temps in the single digits (C°) down to Baltimore while GFS only has it to NYC. Euro has a piece below freezing over New England.

I'm curious how much this will change from now till then. It's usually a compromise.

Wow, hard to believe. This is what GFS says for 216 hours in Europe:

Subfreezing temps only above Iceland. Euro too, only Iceland.

Feeling more and more like autumn - some fog, some mist, lots of dew.
