I'm curious to see how the cold lovers vote on this one....

cloudy and mild but lots of snow for winter sports for Yakutat vs. the extreme cold but sunny and dry conditions for Ulaanbaatar. I think I'll go with Ulaanbaatar on this one because I hate snow more than cold.

Ulan Bator for me, dry in winter (even if cold) and better summers.

Yakutat. severe cold without real snow is just boring, even for me. And since I actually like very maritime, windy, rainy and gloomy places, i could even tolerate the lack of constant snow cover in Yakutat.

I worked in Ulaanbataar (UB) for almost a year and I vote UB hands down. At least you get 3 nice months of weather during the year versus zero for Yakitat. Also, everything freezes the entire winter in UB so you can make skate paths on the sidewalks and ice sculptures that last for half the year.

Really cool! How often did you see snow falling that winter?

Not as often as you would think as they average less than 1" precipitation between Oct-Mar. Still all the snow piles up because it doesn't melt for a long time. It's also common to be sunny blue skies and be -20 to -30 in the winter there. It was a great experience despite the poor infrastructure and severe winter cold.
