Yeah the remnants of a tropical system brought the warmth and humidity. It happens a couple times a year...often in September and October.
We can get remnants here sometimes too, but what's more common is intense mid-latitude low pressure systems that brings cold, wet, and windy weather in August-early October. In winter they bring intense blizzards.

Those mid-latitude systems happen here too during the summer. A windy, rainy day in the 50s is not unheard of during the summer. While summers are the most stable time of the year, it's still far enough north to get spells of unsettled summer weather.
It was 73 F (23 C) at noontime.....a very strong cold front moved through the area with some severe storms ahead of it. Temperature will continue to drop through the day and at night. Some snow may impact the area tomorrow. Up to 2 inches in outlying, elevated areas.
After an unseasonable period of cooler-than-average temperatures, and early season heavy snowfall, that started in late August, a heat wave will impact the area for the next week or two, with highs mostly in the high 60s and mid 70s F.
I'm late mentioning this also...September 4th 2015 high (84F), albeit followed by a hard freeze in the same day, was 1F shy of the September record high, which was 85F on Sept. 1, 2010, and 80+ degree highs in September have only been recorded 4 times in history.
Currently 85F with a dew point of 68F. Will be mostly sunny today with a high of 92F. Tonight's low is 73F.
