"Remember the remarkable meteor explosion over Russia in February? Would you believe the dust from that explosion traveled around the entire Northern Hemisphere in just 4 days?! A few hours after the meteor exploded, NASA's Suomi NPP satellite flew over the area and detected a plume of dust/debris about 25 miles up in the atmosphere, moving east at more than 190 miles per hour! And three months ...later, a detectable belt of meteor dust was still swirling around the globe!
NASA recently announced that with advanced models and those initial satellite measurements, they were able to successfully simulate how the dust plume from the explosion would evolve as the stratospheric jet stream carried it around the Northern Hemisphere. "
