I guess after living in FL so long....I'm just tired of them. I find them quite boring and ugly to be frank. I especially find it disappointing when I go out of state (like Atlanta or DC) and see a palm tree completely ruins the feel IMO.
I love palm trees. Glad I live in L.A. But, I do agree that certain places like DC shouldn't have palms since it doesn't match the scenery, climate and rest of the flora.
Nope. There is a native palm here and I think it's beautiful. I like other palms, but some places (like Florida) seem to have gone overboard on them. I guess I could get used to that though.
Here's a photo of palm flood plains near here (for those who like palms) These would flood a few times a year, but they still thrive - tough as well.
I hate palm trees in places where snow can fall and last. Here, I hate seeing those annoying little windmill palms in the snow - they ruin the feel of the wintry weather, and they're very hardy so it takes a lot for them to die.
In general though, I quite like palm trees in the right location. When I was a kid, I loved palm trees and my aunt bought me two to put in the garden. I had one to this day - but it died recently.
^^ I guess I have the same feeling...when I'm in south FL on a hot, humid 90 F day...then yes the Palm Trees do fit the scenery. But when I see palms in places like Chicago, NYC, or DC or Nashville even Atlanta..it makes me feel sick to my stomach lol. The obsession with palms has gotten kinda out of hand IMO...
Oh, and here is the hardy little bugger I was talking about, I pass it on my way to work - annoying thing has shown virtually no signs of stress whenever I've passed it despite the recent cold, snowy winters. The only thing that will kill it is an axe.
^^ Precisely, that last image makes me want to go puke...lol. Snow and palm trees just don't go together. The next thing I'll see is I'll go to a ski resort in northern Vermont and see a damn palm tree there
^^^ A big range of Northern Hemisphere deciduous trees grow here and very well, yet it doesn't snow here. Do you think they would look cheesy? - as if people here are trying to pretend they live in Toronto? Would they look right in a climate that stays way warmer than where they're from?
^^ Meh, I find it awkward when I see a Maple Tree in Florida as well, just seems out of whack. (Believe it or not, even in the Miami area, there are small Maples growing there, they even change color in the fall and go bare in the winter)
