I posted this in the Oklahoma forum, but I though you guys in the weather forum might appreciate it.
Gary England, for those of you that don't know, is the local meteorologist on KWTV (the CBS affiliate) here in OKC. He has been on the air for decades, and last night was his last broadcast. Obviously living in Central Oklahoma, the heart of tornado alley, weather is taken very seriously here.
Many of today's weather warning technology was pioneered by him, including the first commercial use of the Doppler Radar. He even had a cameo appearance in Twister and worked as a consultant on the film. While I am an avid KFOR watcher, Gary England has probably saved untold number of lives.
A few weeks ago, the New York Times ran a profile on him, most of which was compiled during our huge tornado outbreak this past May. Its a long read, but well worth it.
