That's interesting because you seem to have more diurnal range than must of the NE. Not really an oceanic trait.

I know what you mean though. I feel my climate has a bit more "Continental-ness" than most Oceanic climates on here.

Here's my first frost last year:

Weather History for Chicopee, MA | Weather Underground

37 on the 7th and a few more nights in the 30s, then 30°F on the 12th and then the bigger shock, 22°F the next morning. Annoying bicycling weather.

That's the night that I'm referring to. It was 32 F/0 C before midnight...dropped down to 26 F/-3 C the following morning.

I'm not referring to here but Long Island, where I grew up, which has less variation tha most of the Northeast.

SETAUKET STRONG, NEW YORK - Climate Summary

compared to

AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS - Climate Summary

Night lows 8°F warmer plus less deviation.

Okay, that makes more sense.

It isn't like that here, it's just random. That is why it's a shock.

What a weird place name. I looked that place up and it doesn't look like I thought it would.

It can be warm the night before the first frost here. My point is that the 1-3 C nights up to a month earlier (sometimes even 2 months earlier), won't make the 0C such a shock.
