Hmm, interesting with that many. Turku had continuous ice days from 30 December to 26 February. But oh, was it snowy.

I thought I've bend the rules and pick my favorite from Helsinki as well, but one I remember. The biggest problem is that it's really hard to find a year with 12 decent and interesting months.

As my largest qualm of my climate are the weak and short shoulder seasons, I'd to pick one of the better. But, finding one year with all three summer months decent as well is a problem. Sunshine and precipitation must also be good. So I decided to side with 2007:

January started mild, snowless and rainy. The winter showed its force on 20 January, and it was very cold until early March. March picked up rapidly, and the last week of the month had temps more like late April than late March. The fourth month started warm, but had a cool spell with nights well below freezing, dropping down to -8.7C during the second week. The rest of the month was warm again, but a cold and rainy spell started the month of May. The last frost was on 11 May, and during the last ten days summer was already in full force. The warm weather stayed until 25 June, when another cool and rainy period hit, with highs only of 15-16 degrees.

July was very uninteresting, but that doesn't matter in July. Single figure lows was recorded only once, and temps were in the comfy zone until the 30th. That was a rainy day, and the 31st a frigid one for July, with a high of only 14.5C, the coldest July high in the 2000's. But no worries, until 18 August temps were around 24-28C, and with a few thunderstorms. But again, the last days were cool and rainy, and especially the nights were very cold. September had a few very rainy days and highs weren't really impressing, but the very stable throughout the month. The 18.5C high was recorded twice, the other one being on 30 Sep.

Septemberlike temps continued until 9 October, it was rainy during the mid-month, but after that mostly clear and rainless with ok temps around 10-12C. The first frost of the season was recorded on 11 October. Well, nothing good to say about November, but a few ice days and snow mid-month cheered up a bit, after turning again to rain during the latter part.

December was crappy rainy, a black Christmas, but what can you do? Winter lovers got some first aid in January 2008.

Nice work guys

As for Nice, I guess I'm gonna pick 2007 which was unusual in many regards:

-Warmest ever January
-Warmest ever March
-Warmest ever April
-Second warmest February (after 1990)

-All-time March record high (26.2°C)
-All-time July record high (36.3°C), also the second warmest high ever behind 37.7°C on Aug 1, 2006
-Third-warmest September high (33.1°C) which is the warmest ever temperature that late in the year
-Third-coldest September low (9.4°C on the 28th) and the second earliest ever sub-10°C temperature (the other being 7.6°C on 27 September 1972, which is also the all-time record low in September)
-October low in the top 10 coldest ever (5.9°C)

-Sunniest July, and sunniest month ever with 391.2 hours

-Driest year ever (I believe that would make it a "semi-arid" year)

Edit: what's interesting is that 2007 also follows one of the warmest (the warmest?) fall and early winter ever. December 2006 had an average high of 15.9°C and November above 19°C.

My favourite year that I have experienced was 2003 which was the sunniest on record over 1700 hours of sun.

There was not so much of note in the winter months with no good snowfalls but January was memorable for going from a record breaking 17C to 10cm of snow and a max of 0C within a few days.

My all time favourite year would have been 1955 which was the second sunniest on record with just under 1700 hours and had one of the snowiest Februaries with 50cm of level snow and a record low of -20.6C at the airport.

2013; The summer's cloudiness was a relief, albeit all the rain, and then the fall cooled down quickly and was very sunny in contrast, making it nice to go outside . The winter was milder than usual, and spring was like summer, rainy.
