Here are the 1981-2010 averages for Dalwhinnie. Barely sunnier - still under 1100 hours.

The only good thing about this climate is the October record high.

^^ To me, "C" and "ghastly" don't go well together.

Impressively gloomy. The downward trend in sunshine from May onwards would feel depressing. Winter is decent, the rest of the year is awful. E.

Btw, a 8.2°C average low in July? No wonder why I froze my ass off camping in a nearby valley.

Seems like a normal camping temperature to me. Encountered that a lot on the west coast (at least a bit away from the ocean) in June and July.

The poll only goes to D, so in a poll that goes F, Dalwhinnie would have been a D.

I try to be conservative with my ratings, An F would only be for someone like the South Pole -unlivable all year. E/D are for places where a big part of the year is unlivable -Siberia, Alaska, extremely hot deserts etc.
C climates can often have quite unpleasant weather for much of the year, but not enough to prevent me from living there, if there was enough incentive.

I guess the drizzle and overall dampness didn't help. It felt quite chilly compared to other places in Scotland. Maybe because it was higher up.

What does 'normal camping temperature' mean? An average low of 8.2C in July is downright cold, let alone chilly. There is no such thing as a normal camping temperature - people camp all over the world in different temperatures. People camping in the woods in Massachusetts will probably do so in lows of 14-16C, on average, if they are doing so during July.
