Here is the stats for the month to just:
Melbourne, Vic - May 2008 - Daily Weather Observations (http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/200805/html/IDCJDW3050.200805.shtml - broken link)
Just a quick overview-

Coldest HIGH: 56F
lowest temp: 46ºF
Rain: 15.6mm
Days with rain: 4
Suinshine hours: 21 Average sunshine per day: 2.3 hours
THAT IS HALF AS MUCH AS WHAT WE GET DURING OUR AVERAGE CLOUDIEST MONTH
BY COMPARISON, Up to the same date in MAY 2007, MOST OF THE DAYS were above 70F, sunshine was about 3x as much and the coldest high temp in the whole month was 59F.

You get no sympathy from me on this one.
In November, our stats would probably look like this:
Highest Temp: 67 F (19 C)
Coldest High: 21 F (-6 C)
Lowest Temp: 12 F (-12 C)
Average windspeed: 10 mph (16 km/h)
Coldest windchill": -10 F (-23 C)
Rain: 62 mm
Days with Rain: 10.6
Snow: 7.6 cm
Days with Snow: 4
Sunshine: 69 hours out of 31 days
*Yes it gets worse; December's average is 52 hours of sun in 31 days on average... then there are cloudier years
**All this and November still isn't considered "winter" by us in southern Ontario.
