Actually, below average is good for some farmers here too.
It improves fruits, allowing for a higher sugar content in grapes at least.

In our climate, summers are often too short and too cool to have reliable yields for crops that need 100 days to mature.
So when it's drier, crops can ripen faster than if they stayed damp most of the time.

Record hot and dry months still get 1.5 inches of rain and our monthly average highs always stay under 85 F.
All that happens when we're dry is half the crops have lower yields and lawns get crispy for 1-2 months; no big deal.
It's impossible for drought to be worse than that in southern Ontario.

***I was looking forward to below average rain and above average temps because that means less mosquitos, lots of nice warm and hot sunny days (80-98 F) and few-to-no weekend rain-outs.

Garson-------out of curiosity, I been following the weather in Sierra Vista Arizona (it was rated in a retirement book as one of the 100 best places to retire to)

I realize Sierra Vista isn't "typical Arizona"---(much cooler due to elevation) but I was surprised how much rain they are getting and how many days are forecasted for rain.

That'd be a great day for me.
A little chilly here at times for me.

dxiweodwo: my last long-winded post can be summed up like this...

* Southeastern/Midwestern-style drought is as nearly impossible in Ontario
as 10-12 weeks of continuous severe winter cold could be in Georgia.
(drought is never "devastating" here)

Would you believe it was still 75 degrees at 2 a.m. this morning? Our low was 72. Sigh.

HEAT ADVISORY!!!!!

101 in 2006 is the record high for today!! I have had several calls for this answer. Yes, today will rival if not get hotter than it was a few years ago. We will see the high temperature today in the upper 90's to lower 100's. That is just the air temperature. The heat index will be in the category of 105 to 110 during most of the afternoon. The heat advisory is only in affect for today through 8 pm. A heat advisory has not yet been put in place for the rest of the week. I would not be surprised that one will be put in place for tomorrow, later today. So please take it easy out there for the next few days (at least). Drink plenty of water.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be found in the area beyond the plentiful sunshine. Your chances today are at only about 5 to 10 percent and roughly about 10 yo 15 percent for tomorrow. Nothing to write home about, in other words. Down the line we will see some scattered showers and thunderstorms to finish the work week and into the weekend. All that activity will be due to the heat of the day and a weaker frontal system in the area.

Default Electricity

It got up to about 101 in Dallas yesterday. I was having my "after church and lunch Sunday afternoon nap" and voila! The electricity goes out! It didn't take long to start getting hot. So my dh and I went out for an early dinner. Thankfully, by the time we returned it was back on. If it had appeared it was going to be off all night, we would have gone to a hotel.
