I like EverBlack's idea of critiquing a climate rather than just rating it so let's try it with L.A:
What's wrong with L.A's climate?
What's right with L.A's climate?
Edit: I made a mistake with the poll: I intended for people to be able to vote for multiple options- can a moderator please change it and then delete everything after the word 'Edit'.
Wrong:
-Winter is not quite warm enough for my liking. Needs to be at least about 10F warmer
-May gray and June gloom at times
-SST are too cold in summer
-Sometimes bad air quality
Right:
-Mild to warm winters which are overall very good
-Snow is virtually unheard of at sea level
-Lots of sunshine
-Not much rain which I like
-Summers especially away from immediate coast decent temperature

December and January are actually warmer in LA than in Phoenix, and it is not bad. Jan in LA is like Jun in Vancouver
The weather throughout So Calif. is, generally wonderful, but the lack of summer rains leads to many wildfires. Not to mention some pretty warm days, but the nights are generally nice and cool. When we lived there (a good part of my first 40 years) I did miss the change of seasons and hated those 90 degree plus summer days. Now, heck I live where the summers are just as hot and we have humidity.
I chose "too dry overall", but "too hot inland in summer" is a very close second! I love the marine layer and the May gray / June gloom; it's nature's air-conditioning that usually protects L.A. from brutal heat waves (the last couple of days notwithstanding!). I'm grateful to live in a coastal valley, because even though the microclimate means that it can be 15 degrees hotter here than in Santa Monica, the very bad heat waves usually only last two or three days.
