I thought we could make a northern irish one. Average winter sea temp in middle of channel is 6/7c. I think it goes to 5c sometimes.
So lets just say how hard would it to freeze the whole channel and has it ever happened before? Do you think it will happen in the next one hundred years?
Just to clarify its the channel between north ni and kintyre.
Njet. Too strong currents and too much inflow of new warmer water from the Atlantic. For Atlantic locations it's particularly very difficult due to the prevailing westerlies. What's the average depth, I think it's pretty deep as well?
Ok, then it's not much. But still, the water should remain almost still, the wind straight from the north, no new water should be allowed to flow in, and temps should be in this range for around 50 days: Synop report summary
The English Channel froze in 1966, so you can compare to that if you find climate stats from the period.
Doubt it to be honest. It would have to be extremely cold for that to happen here. Probably levels that are near impossible.
