Would expect George to say that every season is poor in London.

Spring can be brilliant or it can be very poor.

2011 is an example of a good Spring that was sunny and warm, April averaging a max of nearly 20C!

But then years such as 2013 show how bad it can get

He likes hot summers and cold winters, spring and fall in between. Spring in London is consistently mild, so... Its sunshine looks almost decent, though I can't find % numbers.

It's 32% in March, 42% in April and 43% in May, but that's using the CS recorder so those number would likely be higher using the US method.

Here is Kew for 1981-2010 (% monthly and annual): assumes flat horizon with a deduction from recordable max appropriate for CS measuring.

That would be on the cloudier side here, but not unheard of. A station in eastern Massachusetts has a CS recorder. Normal is 48% in March, 49% in April and 52% for May.

What I like about your Springs is not necessarily the temperatures (you don't get hot), but you do have some consistency that is lacking here. I've noticed, that in April especially, if high pressure is established over England, it tends to stick around for a while. For us, March/April is a tug of war between weakening Arctic highs and strengthening high pressure to the south. It can literally be 80 degrees one day and a few hours later it's snowing. That ****s with my sinuses (Btw, I'm sick now).....

I am a cold weather lover, but only Dec-Feb. Your March/April period is imo better than ours even if it's cloudier in London. May on the other hand, things usually start to turn towards summer mode here. Sometimes we have to wait until late May which is annoying.

I should add for some perspective how I rate Chicago's seasons:

Good winters (though we get a lame one ever 3-4 years). Generally poor Springs (only May is good, and poor Aprils probably outnumber good ones, March is just nuts). Fair Summers (all three months could stand to be 1-3C warmer, July isn't so bad). Fair Autumns (September and October are almost ideal for me, but because November sucks so bad, I can only rate it Fair).

D.C has good summer, springs, and falls (and plentiful thunderstorms during those seasons). The only problem for me is winters are too cold and gloomy. London fails in all four seasons for lack of sunshine and weak summer. The only redeeming quality about London's summers are long daylight hours and at least a few thunderstorms (as opposed to my location that usually sees zero thunderstorm activity in summer).
D.C. wins and gets a C from me.
London gets a D.
