A lot of warm air arriving: we have a forecast high of 56°F on Wednesday. then a high of 32°F on thursday.
Same here maybe 60s and heavy rain! Damn west track! The center of the low might come right over me actually.
Here's Tom Nizol's FB post. Interesting he says this amount of snow is not common for the Great Lakes area coming from a storm
"Get ready Western New York, this is NOT lake-effect, BOREAS is a large scale winter storm and you are in the crosshairs for the heaviest snow totals. This is NOT common for the region, more then 1/2 your annual snow comes directly from lake-effect. So, let's so what we do when the snow gets heavy, hunker down and enjoy it !!"
I'm kind of relieved because a snowstorm would have been a major inconvenience. We can use the rain anyway.
Same here on the Connecticut/Long island coast - we need rain bad. I/m glad it will be all rain. They say we could hit 60 - 63 F on Wed, then back to mid 30 F:
Yes, this storm has perfect timing. I know further south (Long Island, maybe coastal CT?) is worse than us, a few thunderstorms hit us late summer/early fall that missed down there.
Current radar and metars. Snowing across parts Kentucky. Was in TN now changed to sleet and freezing rain. That sounds like what will happen further north as well as the cold air hangs on for the start.
Random Pick. Here's Buffalo, NY GFS18z data. I would assume High snow ratios but not sure the temp from surface to 925mb with this one. But you can see the support for snow for sure.850s below freezing and surface around freezing. 0.89" of liquid as snow. Even at 10:1 ratios that would be 7-9" of snow.
If you guys want me to check an area post a 3 letter code for a station. I'll check back in a bit
According to NWS...the east winds will bring in the warmer air and protect the East Coast from the snow. SST look pretty warm so I could see places from Boston south getting into the 50's and 60's F on Wed: SST are still almost 70 F/21 C about 200 miles off New Jersey.
