Silly question jets.

My fave tho would have to be MacQuarie Island. I can just see myself living in a cosy little shack on the beach among the penguins.

Finally the heat wave has ended in Central and Northern Argentina.
Yesterday was last day and was terrible, the most humid day in the summer so far. Dew point reached 26.5°C in Buenos Aires and surpassed 27.0°C in some areas.

Buenos Aires, jan-23: low 28.2°C / high 37.0°C --> tied the highest minimum ever recorded
Rosario, jan-23: low 29.1°C / high 39.5°C --> highest minimum ever recorded

After a record-breaking december, january is being very hot too. Now a cold front has passed through the country and temperatures have plummeted. Hopefully the rest of the summer gets cooler conditions.

Interesting situation in Catamarca:
jan-21: 26.9°C / 42.5°C
jan-22: 29.9°C / 42.0°C
jan-23: 29.9°C / 43.5°C
Current temperature (2.00 pm): 13.7°C and raining

Nothing too unusual. I've seen 3 nights at 5C or lower this summer, and a night of 2C as well.

I'm surprised that you don't get more colder nights during summer. Could it be a combination of shorter nights/cloudier nights?

Yeah probably. Higher humidity too helps keep the nights relatively warm.

South coast and South East Cities probably don't see too many nights below 10C during July, if any at all.

Humidity looks to be the same as here. On the colder evenings here, dew will form before sunset, as the temperature drop is rapid, but humidity has been high. I think cloud is probably the only real factor.

How common are cold fronts in summer there? We've been having about 2 a week for nearly a month now

Yeah probably the cloud then, although we have plenty of clear nights and have never recorded temperatures as low as 2C in any summer month. Like you mentioned earlier, the shorter nights could also be a factor.

I wouldn't say we would get as many fronts as that, but I wouldn't know how often for sure without checking. I'll get back to you on that one!

The forecast high was 28 C today. I think the Metservice are trolling us. Currently 18 C and overcast with an icy easterly blowing at a constant 30 kph. There's no way in hell it will get anywhere near 28 C with this setup. It would be lucky to break 20 C.

Correction, it was actually 3 C. That's our average winter low! This is a putrid, vile sub-Antarctic climate.

I beg to disagree a little. January is being more "average" than December by far. It's true we had some specific days with very high minimums and maximums (which is not so frequent) but we've also had three cool air entries that brought the high temps down to values below 25 C for two or three days in a row, if I remember correctly. All in all January is being better than December not because it's being cool but just because December was exceptionally hot.

Yeah, true that last December was stunning and January isn't going to get close. Besides, the recent cold front cooled down the thing a bit, yet so far the average of this January is 25.6ºC and it's likely to remain about that value, significantly higher than 24.5ºC, the average of 1961-1990. A bit closer to the more representative average of 1981-2010, which is 24.9ºC.
