Option 1: you get to live in San Diego climate conditions in 1896. You must use average technology as used in 1896; that goes for both heating/cooling and everything else. No computers, cars, or anything post-1896.

Option 2: you get to live in Helmintoller climate conditions in 1996. You get central heating and air, computers, cars (with heating and A/C), VHS players, etc... technologies commonly available in 1996.

Well, I'd easily rather live in 1896 than in 1996, unless the 1896 option involved enduring brutal cold. But I'd rather live in a boring climate in 1896 than my favourite climate in boring 1996. And one doesn't need any technology to make the climate of San Diego comfortable.
