Nothing is sillier than an extended weather forecast.

You go online and now days a number of weather forecasting sites will try to tell you they know what the weather is going to be 5-10-15 days out. These forecasts are wrong about 80% of the time in my experience, especially in the winter.

The news people never call the weatherman to task when he/she is wrong.

What is your experience with the extended weather forecast?

They can barely get the 3 day forecast right never mind the extended.

That's why it's called a "forecast".... because it's a prediction/estimation of what is to be expected or what could potentially happen. I hear the forecasters on TV all the time remind people to take long-term forecasts with a grain of salt especially when the models are showing a potential weather event.

Amen to that, I couldn't agree with you more on the point that you are trying to get across to the general public. I have found that some of the time, todays forecast for the high temperatures in Indianapolis haven't even been close to being right. Now I don't know whether I should believe in the forecast for tomorrow either, because it is almost 3 pm here in Indianapolis and the temperature has yet to crack 50 when local forecasters were predicting mid to upper 50's for highs, Unbelievably inaccurate for a days forecast, wouldn't you say?

With a grain of salt if they predict heavy snows.

Those 2-week forecasts for various locations around the globe are not done by meteorologists, but are extracted from raw model data (often GFS), so they change with every run and God knows models aren't consistent more than 120-150 hours out.

I do give the 5-7 day forecast some merit but anything beyond that is just guessing. Worst I've seen is Local Weather from AccuWeather.com - Superior Accuracyâ„¢ which gives 45 day forecasts, totally random guesses based on climatology.

In my home town they couldn't even predict what it was going to be yesterday that morning. What a bunch of fools they are.
