So, which of these two scenarios is less likely in May:
  1. Quebec city hits a high of 88 F with Brilliant sunshine and a gentle breeze
  2. Texarkana, TX hits a low of 30 F with Thunderstorms & Hail followed by freezing rain
I would think that # 2 is more possible since the plains are subjected to fast moving cold fronts from time to time. It takes a lot of energy to pump heat all the way up to Quebec city.

I would say 30 F With clear skies is possible in Texarkana, but frozen Precip is uncommon anytime of the year, just cant see freezing rain falling in May. I'll say Quebec city.

Not in winter. Ice storms frequently hit the Northeast Texas region. This year, last year, 2010, 2009, and many more.

By uncommon I meant winter weather only occurring 2-3 times a winter. I'd say winter weather is uncommon up where I live.

I recall that there was indeed a cold snap in Texas in May 2013. Amarillo got down to 36 degrees F if memory serves me right, but someone may be able to confirm that for me.

Quebec City hitting 88 F in May is way more likely. It's probably happened before, especially in late May. 30 F in Texarkana probably has never happened before, in fact I would be surprised if Texarkana has hit below 35 F in May. Especially with precipitation falling.

This is a no brainer...

Quebec City's record high for May is 33C so over 91F.

Even the record high for April is close to 88F: 30C or 86F.

I would say Quebec City as well, since it is May. You can often get a wound up great lakes low and get a surge of very warm air northward even into central Quebec. Now May can be quite variable from beginning to end. in early May is 88F possible in Quebec City, not so much....but late May yes it is possible. Texarkana to see 30F with precip would be a huge challenge even in early May. They may drop to 30F for a low under clear sky....but with precip and clouds awfully hard to get that much cold air south for precip after May 1st. Now for April I would say the opposite.

But both of these situations are likely and such temperatures have been recorded during extreme events. This makes it an even break.
