I believe last time we had temps this cold during a snowstorm was January 23, 2005. Maybe someone else remembers another. Click on map for details.

Updated Radar with 500mb heights. Quick technical post here.

The current tilt of the trough is neutral. The general flow aloft with the system is Northeast.

You want to get that negative tilt to enhance snowfall tonight. I'll see if I can remember to grab this map again in 12hrs to compare the difference and to see if it went negative

Who would of thought that with a coastal storm and a system coming from the "south" that Boston metro and parts of MA would see 4-8" on the ground before NYC metro? Nuts.

NWS Boston .

MAIN ACTION HAS BEEN MESOSCALE BANDS LIFTING NORTH FROM THE OCEAN AND AFFECTING MOSTLY EASTERN MA WITH OCEAN ENHANCEMENT ACROSS NE MA.

Snow ratios are insane. Less than 1/10th liquid falling and areas with 4-8" already. Mountain type snow.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 foot totals now.

Ocean Effect. Simply just fascinating to watch as the entire flow is still Northeast they are getting Ocean enhanced moisture coming from the waters and dropping mountain type snows on them.

Curling right in.
