I just posted this on FB and told people I was taking bets on how long it takes my dogs to run outside and do their bidness in the morning.
I'm betting about, oh...17 seconds tops.
They're such babies! Earlier today, after the temps dropped, they both came running up to me in the house wanting to run outside - from inside they could see that it had stopped drizzling and the sun was shining brightly in the deep, blue Texas sky - what a beautiful day it seemed to be! So I opened the door, they both ran out... and came to screeching halts about four feet outside the door.
Then they dashed out into the yard, took care of bidness, and had their cold dog noses pressed against the glass, with looks of quiet desperation in their eyes, in no time flat!
They're both stretched luxuriously out in front of the fireplace now. They're southern dogs - dey ain't used to dis.
There it is... The piece of air from the pole that broke off and headed south.. Just beautiful. At least everyone reading here knows and is prepared. So be safe out there. Hope everyone else involved copes and is ready

Only 7 to 8 below for a Tuesday morning low in Pittsburgh? Granted 5 below is the record, but I was hoping for at least 11 below to get past 2009 levels...

Daytime highs are impressively low, but I agree...overall the minimums are nothing to write home about. We dropped to -15 F/-26 C in January 2009. That's the lowest temperature I can recall personally experiencing in recent years. I would love to see -20 F or so for novelty's sake.
Roller coaster for Orlando -- highs of 80°F, 73°, 43°, 65° then back to 77°- 80° coldest overnight low of 28°F Tues
That's how it goes in winter
Basically alternating cold & warm all Jan & Feb
