Likely going to have a glaze of ice tomorrow followed by heavy rain on Saturday. Central NJ has the perfect scenario set for an Ice Jam to occur.

Light snow here today morning, thus adding to the water flow in rivers when it warms up and melts later today.

This might be a serious issue for the Raritan.

Refreezing after flooding is a major concern during winter.

Cool map showing River Ice reports from NY & PA. Point and Click.

ICE EXTENDS 10-20 FEET FEET FROM THE EAST SHORE AND 10-20 FEET FEET FROM THE WEST SHORE. IN GENERAL 10 percent OF THE CHANNEL IS OPEN. THE ICE IN OPEN WATER CONSISTS OF PIECES/BLOCKS OF SHEET ICE. COMMENT:

Rapid warmup has begun. Ice jams are possible today and tomorrow and could cause moderate flooding in parts of NJ. Beware of freeze up tomorrow night after flooding.

If there are any deaths from this, the cause should be the polar vortex, not the warm-up to seasonal conditions. A lot of the people on here want to see these hard freezes, but they don't realize that even if the meltdown doesn't occur now, it would have to occur sometime. Up in northern Siberia, when the meltdown occurs in mid-May, there are giant 50 feet high icejams that bust each May. You can hear the loud cracking sound from it.

Yet people on here mention that a polar vortex is good "to kill off insects". Which is better, to have had a mild winter with no ice and then no ice jams or flooding but insects to be slightly higher than normal, or to get a giant record freeze and kill off insects, but ice jams cause record flooding and loss of life.

A lot of people don't realize what kinds of things happen in arctic climates... to all the the cold "lovers"...
