Suppose you have to spend two hours doing moderate (but not strenuous) physical activity in one of the following two sets of conditions. This could be anything from bike riding, to a brisk walk, to walking a golf course carrying your clubs, etc. You have ample access to water in both scenarios.
Scenario A: It’s 81 °F / 27 °C with a dew point of 75 °F / 24 °C, but completely overcast. Rain will not occur, and also the sun will not shine through the clouds at all for the duration of the time you’re outside.
Scenario B: It’s 86 °F / 30 °C but with a dew point of just 57 °F / 14 °C and completely sunny. There will not be a single cloud to provide a break from sun exposure for the duration of the time you’re outside.
For me, I can tolerate humidity by itself pretty well, but I hate being in the sun when it’s hot, even when it’s not very humid. It feels far more oppressive to me, so I’d choose Scenario A, but I’m curious which scenario others here would prefer.
Neither are that bad. That beind said, I would prefer 86F with 57 dewpoint. Your sweat will evaporate, cooling you effectively. 75F dewpoints are harder to take, regardless of temperature. Plus the blue sky and sun makes me happier, in a better mood.
I definitely agree. The strong sun is probably the number one reason I am a heat hater. I can even (somewhat) enjoy sitting on the beach when it's 90F (32C) and humid and I've done so in the recent past, but only if I'm in the shade under a beach umbrella. I just cannot understand people who sunbathe. It would be incredibly uncomfortable for me.
But either option would be nice, especially right now.
