Lake Michigan Ice Cover Reaches Record Coverage!

This last stretch of cold weather during late February into the first week of March caused ice concentration on Lake Michigan to rapidly increase. The Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) in Ann Arbor Michigan measures the ice concentration on the Great Lakes daily. On March 8th, the ice concentration on Lake Michigan was measured at 93.29%. This sets a new record ice cover on Lake Michigan. The previous record was 93.1% set in 1977. The period of record dates back to 1973.

New video. Bernie says Chicago is 50 miles away from getting snows.
Low strengthens over land and goes over Philly.

Accu Graphics on the storm coming up. Big snowstorm for New England!

Last week the snows missed me to the south by 100 miles. This time (which is more typical in March) the snows misses me to the north.

The GFS persistently puts us on a cold snap from Saturday onwards in Northern Europe. Snow, sleet, and maybe even a couple of ice days. Well, a bit of snow doesn't hurt, but hopefully the nights won't go much below freezing.

Highs of only 1C on Saturday and sleet.

My weather station extreme record light was blinking this morning. It says I've entered a long streak of dry days.

So I went to check the climo sites... I Just realized Bridgeport, CT (BDR) has not had measurable precip in 19 days. Feb 18th was last time.

Islip, NYC, Hartford have by a tenth or so inch once or twice in between. But it's been pretty much dry past 3 weeks around here

Looking at the stats...

Bridgeport, CT (BDR) March Mean Temp is 28.5°(-7.6 below normal).
0" of precip.

Coldest and Driest March on record so far.

It's only been 10 days, there's probably been another March with 10 dry days.

I hope this is another bust, at least for NYC/LI.
