I couldn't think of a way to title this thread that wasn't clunky or even a little confusing sounding. Anyway, here is what I am getting at:
In Seattle, for example, our highest record low is 44 degrees in August, and our lowest record high is 64 degrees in both December and January. (source = Averages and Records - Weather - Environment - Living in Seattle - Seattle.gov) Therefore, Seattle has potential to record temperatures in the 44 to 64 degree range in any given month of the year.
Record lows in summer are just below freezing, and record highs in winter are just over 10C. So, the range would be around 0 to 10C, although 0 to 5C is more likely. A sub-5C low is almost guaranteed from August though June inclusive every year.
Interestingly, our annual average is around 2C.
Quite impossible to say. My climate is very stable regarding extremes and very season relevant due to the high latitude and the sheltered position behind Norway, Sweden and the Baltic sea.
Our record low in June is -2.2C and record high in February 10.2C, so maybe that range then. July and August have never recorded a freeze, and the next June one is probably when I'm 85 or something.
In practical terms, we almost never go above 7C in Jan-Feb or below 7C in July-Aug. Highest ever recorded in October is 19.4C, and in March 15.5C, but from mid April until September 30 having 20C is quite possible. Like in September 2011 we recorded 21C on 30 September, just one day later it would've been the all time October record high. 30C can be recorded in May, but never in April, or in August, but never in September.
Ignoring records, we only have seasonal highs and lows, not yearly ones.
Oh, and I could add that we've had on average 2 days above 30C per year this century, but not a single one have been 33C or above! And we've had -29C twice, but -30C the last time in 1987.
The coldest summer highs Bingley has had are 7C in June (to nearest whole number), 10.7C in July, and 10.4C in August (though nearby Bradford has recorded 8.9C in August before the Bingley station existed, so sub-10C in August will be possible here). I don't actually know the winter record highs, but all three months will comfortably have been above 10.7C, so highs of 11-12C would not be exceptional on any day of the year.
As for the lows, just looking round some extreme months I can find a June with an average low of 7.4C, an August with an average low of 8.6C and various nights at 5 and 6C in July, so lows of 6-8C wouldn't be anything noteworthy at any time of year.
