I was not trolling. However, I don't take kindly to people insulting me. I was merely quoting uv index averages. I never said a uv of 7 doesn't occur, in fact I stated that I was not aware of the uv index on the south coast of England
Here it is from your own Met agency, which apparently weather online copied word for word. According to your own met service a uv index of 7 is not common.
Quote:
The UV index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks towards the end of June). Indices of 9 and 10 are common in the Mediterranean area.
Oh, I forgot to tell and flamingGalah didn't mention it either, that some areas of Greater London gets around 1500 sunshine hours a year, while southern coast locations like Portsmouth gets around 1900, which also increases the likelyhood for clear blue skies and more frequent high UV in summer.
Hmm i'm not sure if the Met is totally reliable when it comes to UV, other sites always seem to show higher readings!
This site here is quite good as it shows historical UV indexes. 8 does happen in southern England but usually it is 6 or 7.
Your 3 or 4 forecasts from x year does not mean a uv index of 7 is actually the average. And if I'm wrong then so is your met office which has stated that 7 happens only during "exceptional" periods in other words not the normal.
Quote me where I specifically stated that a uv index of 7 DOES NOT happen.
Uv index of 7 is pretty weak. Depends on your skin type.
I live in a city that maxes at around 8 in mid June and have never gotten sunburn before because I gradually work my way in to the sun starting in May.
Around UV index 11 then I start to get red if I dont have sunscreen at the beach the whole day.
If you guys want a south england UV indexes, here is camborne located at 50N for records since 2002.
I suspect the UVI chart posted in the previous thread used only latitude as a factor.
Wellington had 7 as the January average according to the chart, but the previous few days have averaged between 9-11, with today forecast for 12-13.
Sunburn can be a big issue here at times, even with a good tan.
