Same here in Sydney. The warmest month [February] averages about 22.65ºC [72.77ºF] in Port Jackson, which is right on the coast. This average is the lowest in Sydney, due to sea breezes cooling down the days, despite nights averaging 20.5ºC [68.9ºF], the highest in Sydney. However, the water temperature averages 23.7ºC [74.66ºF], likely due to the warm East Australian current bringing tropical waters from the Torres Strait further south.
In winter, the sea temperature is always warmer than the average temperature in Port Jackson. 13.9ºC [57.02ºF] is the average, which is the warmest in Sydney, proving that the coast has less annual temperature variation than inland. The sea is much warmer than the air, averaging 18.6ºC [65.48ºF] in September, from the ocean current storing heat with its higher thermal inertia.
On the other hand, cold water in the tropics makes the difference between air and water temperature in all months much smaller. In Walvis Bay, Erongo Region, Namibia; the cold Benguela current from the south makes the climate very mild, but the cold water generates less evaporation, causing it to have a hyper-arid desert climate.
Air temperature vs Water temperature in February: 17.9ºC [64.22ºF] vs 18.5ºC [65.3ºF]
Air temperature vs Water temperature in August: 13.25ºC [55.85ºF] vs 13.4ºC [56.12ºF]
