For comparison, winter 2012-2013

Total score: 10 on 4 days

January 2nd: -1
January 22nd: -4
February 1st: -4
February 20th: -1

Winter 2011-2012

Total score: 11 on 7 days
This one came as a surprise to me. 2011-2012 was a far warmer winter than 2012-2013.

January 2nd: -1
January 3rd: -2
January 13th: -1
January 18th: -1
February 11th: -2
February 12th: -2
February 13th: -2

Wow, the final score in De Bilt (near Utrecht, and where the Dutch met office is based) using the rating system designed to fit their winter weather patterns is 0.0! First winter ever in more than 100 years not to score any points at all. I'd suspect most places in Britain apart from some Scottish valleys would be on 0.0 too, but that wouldn't be quite as unique.

Maybe the hellmann score is unknown in Finland or other countries.
I'm confused. Does this measure the amount of frosts or days with a mean below freezing. Would a day with a high of 5 C and low of -2C count?

No, because that doesn't average below freezing. A high of 2 and a low of -5 however would add 1.5 points to the total.

Ah, I read a local article about this. Usually winters here get 600-800 points, this one only got something over 200. Goes to show how ridiculously mild it's been for months and months.

0 since we are talking about daily means.
If we were discussing the sum of Tmins below 0ºC it would be 77.7
