Two somewhat similar climates. Tucson however is more interesting with the monsoon season in the summer. Tucson has a slightly hotter and longer summer than bakersfield. Tucson has milder winters but is prone to more cold snaps with occasional dustings every few winters. Bakersfield is the more arid of the two. For me I would prefer tucson due to the hotter weather.

Tucson for more rain, more sun, less wind, less fog.

Bakersfield, closer to the beach to get out of the heat, and when your cold in the winter, the beach to warm you up!

Tucson. Though summers and winters are a little warmer, it's more prone to arctic cold, snow, and thunderstorms.

Both are way too hot in summer but at least Tuscon gets the monsoons with warm rain and thunderstorms in late summer.

My thoughts too; they're quite similar in average winter lows already and it's not as if Bakersfield has plentiful winter rain, either.

I've spent a considerable amount of time in both places. I like Tucson better.

The thing not mentioned here is air quality. It is as much of a factor in considering the desirability of a place as temperature, rainfall or wind. With the climate as similar between the two as it is in all other respects, the number of smoggy, dusty, unhealthy days in Tucson is far fewer than in Bakersfield.

Both are too hot.

Bakersfield's winters are too cool. So I'd go for Tuscon only because of its pleasantly mild winters.
