As stated above, that station doesn't represent the milder winters and cooler summers of the barrier island. They are using Ocean Cty Airport which is 10 miles inland with much cooler nights and warmer days.
If you want a more realistic idea of the climate there, use NOAA's data for the Atlantic City site on Absecon Island.

January high/low = 41/29F
July high/low = 81/69F
Yeah, I kind of noticed that when Record low was mentioned as -19 F. No way the shore regions get that cold. Pine barrens are a great example of frost hollows in NJ. It reached -25 F for a all time record low (or something around that).
I wouldn't consider 81/69 that "cool", the cool days are offset by warm,muggy nights. Sussex averages 84/59 during July so the mean is lower, I would greatly prefer that to 81/69.
This is kind of a "meh" climate to me, summers seem OK during the day but warm and humid at night. Winters are too mild as most of the precip falls as rain, but the potential for nor'easters brings the grade up a bit. All in all not a very exciting climate so I rate it a D.
