The El Nino might be flailing but we still are having well above normal SST in Southern California as of now (after a very El Ninoish summer and fall) We'll see if they crash to normal or below normal after this coming cold snap.
Yup, there's a difference between atmospheric conditions, sea surface conditions, and when they classify it as Nino.
There's a certain criteria so if its not a steady Nino for months the ups and downs of indicators won't let it be classified as that but yet our weather patterns could be reflecting it.
