Days exactly average, nights milder; slightly cooler than January 2014.

Much wetter than normal, and cloudier.

A pretty ****ty wet month overall aside from the mildness. Lowest temp recorded was only 4°C.

Hell yeah, February 2014 gets a big fat zero from me. A disgrace of a month. Barely touched the freezing mark, the lowest high matching the normal high, no temperature variation whatsoever.

So this ends winter 2013-2014, the third warmest on record since 1873 in Paris-Montsouris, behind 2006-2007 and 1974-1975. No ice day, the coolest high of the cool season so far was 39°F back in mid-November, which is the highest in recorded history. The chilliest low was 22°F in early December.

Good riddance, let spring begin.

This year so far:

^^ Yeah, this at almost 49N.

North suburban Barrington just 17miles/27km from O'Hare far enough from the lake and the city's UHI to have a substantial difference

Longyearbyen has averaged -1.2C for the month up to 10.40 am on the 27th (what an odd time to quote figures from?!), which is 15 degrees above normal and 4.4 C above their record-warmest February set in 2012!

Varm februar gir ekstrem-rekord på Svalbard - VG Nett om Vær og uvær

It seems to have snowed there recently, but a lot of the times when I've checked the webcam it has been slushy with lots of bare ground visible, and this is less than 1000 km from the North Pole we are talking about in a place which averages -16C for February.

BOREALIS LIVECAM LONGYEARBYEN 360

Ah, it turns out it got colder at the end of the month and came out at -1.7C, so 'only' 14.5C above normal. It must be the only time ever that an October can be slightly milder than average yet still colder than either January or February the following year.

Corvallis, Oregon, Hyslop Field:

Average Max: 47.8 (8.8), 3.3 (about 1.7) degrees below long term average
Average Min: 35.0 (1.7), essentially normal.
Rainfall: 7.94 (202mm). We beat average by 2.7 inches (68mm); in this case this is a good thing. February is only the second month in the last 14 that we have had above average rainfall and while the drought isn't broken, it hasn't gotten worse in our area.

The signature feature of this month was the snowstorm that descended on us from early morning the 6th 'till mid day the 8th. Hyslop Field piled up 14.5 inches of the stuff (37 cm) and that was one of the lowest accumulations in the central and southern Willamette Valley. We got 19 inches (48.3) on our back porch and some areas south and west of town saw nearly two feet. For those of us from the coast to the Cascade Crest and from About 50 miles north of the Columbia River to about Roseburg, 120 miles south of us, this was the worst blizzard since 1937. It was the finest northern Rockies powder you could wish for but there was so much of it, shoveling it all out took the better part of a week. We simply are not used to the kind of snowfalls that would have raised eyebrows in New England or Michigan's upper peninsula.

Looking forward, I believe we here in Oregon will continue to see average or wetter than average months. Our drought will slowly erode and by this time next year will be nothing more than an unpleasant memory. California, south of about Redding will not. As of now, they are in the second of a series of three storms that are dropping prodigious amounts of rain, but when that all blows over early next week they will return to dry weather and will probably not see anything significant for the rest of the year.
