D+ for those overcast chilly winters (how much sun do they get in winter and are there warm spells of 65 F+ multiple times, if so it could bump up the grade). The + is for the warm summers that at least get some rain (hopefully some in the form of warm thunderstorms) unlike some other Mediterranean climates
Ioannina generally has crazy weather. You can experience warmth or cold weather both in the same day! For example at night and in the morning you will see -6 C and at the noon 12 C. :P Here is the climate of the city! Sunshine in winter may be lower than this board shows and humidity higher in all months. Thunderstorm is a very common phenomenon in the city even in winter 42 days per year. Fog ia also very common. In winter we can get cold or mild weather.
Here are some videos of the past winter 's 2014-2015 highlights in Ioannina. Heavy rainfalls (as usual but really heavy this year), 2 snowfalls, icecycles and many frosts. Absolute high 18,8 C at early December and absolute low -10,0 C at early January.
One of the heaviest rainfalls in the city at 02-12-2014. We had from 60 to 80 mm in just 6-7 hours.
Generally it was a mild to normal winter. Normal wet days, not too gloomy as usual but the rainfalls were heavy with strong winds. In terms of snow it was not very ok. It had only 2 days with snowfall.
Winters are neither cold enough nor snowy enough. Summers are way too hot.
My favorite Greek climate is Florina.
Me too. Florina is so great especially in the winter. 35 days with snowlying on average and 27 days with snowfalling. Many frosts and icy days and it also has breaks with more bearable temperatures and sun or rain and fog. And very nice summers! Ioannina would be colder and snowier in winter at about 3 C and a little bit cooler at summer. But the city is well protected well from north winds due to the mountain range of Pindus.
Greenville, SC. My city usually only has a couple snow days, mostly rain. Some days it's light, but a few times a year we get these huge downpours
Wow you have about the same precipitation with Ioannina. We get around 1300 mm per year. Yes the climates are quite the same but you have more sun!!! Here are the statistics of the station of our National Observatory of Athens in Ioannina. It is near to my home. The summer became very hot because we had strong heatwaves those years and the winter quite milder. Only rain is ok hahaha.
