I don't think he prefers brown grass, but I agree with him that for it to "feel" like a proper summer the grass has to go brown. I think it's because from all the good summers I can remember of growing up, playing in the sunshine in the garden, the grass was always brown...

It's not just the good summers. It happens every summer (though it was late in 2007 and 2012).

I do actually prefer brown grass with dry, dusty, concrete soil over lush green grass with damp soil.

Yes most summers it will get at least a bit brown, or patches of brown, but if the summer is a washout it won't...

Luckily in humid continental climates we can have good summers and the grass can still be green. Though obviously in drought summers it turns brown and nasty

Today's maximum temperatures across Europe... Near record breaking across parts of Spain & well above average in a good chunk of the rest... Well above average also in parts of Portugal, France & Italy... Above average in parts of northern, central, eastern & southern Europe too...

Well 44.5C at Cordoba, just 0.5C off the record for June...
