Your climate only has 5 months colder than the coldest month here when going by average maximum, which is quite a difference. Cloudy as well in Berlin, which doesn't help.
That's average maximum, my average minimum is much lower than Berlin, making the overall average somewhat colder. The cold minimums also make for a shorter growing season, in particular giving a late spring start.
Berlin's average maximum is higher than here from April to September, and a little lower in October. In April and September it's rather similar though.
Why only focus on average maximums? They're not that important.
Depends on the person.

It seems like there are plenty of everyone from everywhere, in your little patch of the world, with an anecdote for everything. Don't you get tired of talking out of your posterior?
Just chill there fella. It's just weather talk, which is the point of this forum.
If you're not interested, don't comment -that's what I do.
Not anecdotes, but answers. I talk weather/climate a lot with people from other countries. It's my major interest.
For Turin I've found the snow series from winter 1787-88 till winter 2008-2009, if you want
the site also says that in the period 1981-2010 the average was 24.5 cm of snow every winter, with a visible decreasing compared with the to the previous periods. The average of the whole period shown in the graph is 46.9 cm instead .
From that page, the snowiest cities are Cuneo (altitude 550m) with an average of 96.2 cm of snow in the period 1981-2010, and Aosta (altitude 583 m) with an average of 78.6 cm over the same period. Practically all the stations recorded a decreasing in the snow amount in the last decades, but less evident than the one in Turin.
Of course to see really snowy places you have to move at higher altitudes, on the Alps.
96 cm of snow??? Wow!!! I want it hahaha! How many days with snowfall? I guess it lasts for long... Veru interesting. Is there a link with data from the station for each month in ogimet or somewhere else?

Yep your climate is definitely colder, but I'd take it over Berlin.
I look at weather from the point of view, on how it makes one feel. I'm just seeing Berlin as somewhere with winter like maximums and sunshine (compared to my climate) for 7 months. They only leaves 5 months for some good weather.

Interesting. Strong decrease there. Big year to year variation, I'm guessing due to snow being from a couple of occasional storms? Of whether ther are any cold snaps that winter? Northern Italy snowfall is perhaps comparable to the upper south or Mid-Atlantic (DC averages 40 cm / year), at least going by older snow numbers.

I thought your sunshine didn't have much seasonality? Sunshine % doesn't change enough here that I'd think of "winter-like sunshine" or "summer-like sunshine".

I would have thought climates with a longer growing season would be more important to you, though I don't know how much more you can grow in Berlin vs Massachusetts since both are quite cold in winter anyway. You could probably grow more here than MA though, and our growing season hasn't finished yet.
I've always maintained the idea that our biggest downfall in terms of weather is lack of sunshine. Most other things aren't too bad. Temperatures fairly comfortable.
I count only 5 months though, assuming your climate is Nelson.
Motueka, which is about 35 km west of Nelson. It has warmer highs and colder lows in every month.
Berlins figures are also 1971-2000,probably different now.
