Heathrow had a low of 22.6c. Most of the other nights were nothing unusual, around 16-18c. The July min record is still safe.

If the 850hPa 20c temps got to us just 12 hrs earlier or later, we could've seen the record high matched or broken. In the end they reached us in the middle of the night.

Highest min was 22.6C at Heathrow, followed London Oxford Airport at 22.5C & St James' Park at 22.2C.
Minimums were widely above 20C across southern & western parts of England...

BBC were forecasting a low of 21C here, but I knew that wouldn't happen. Actual low turned out to be 18.6C. 20C lows just seem impossible to achieve here, even after 33-34C highs.

I think you use a different way to measure low temperatures. In the US, they use the minimum temperature in a 24-hours period which could occur at any time during day or night.

It's still a 24h period, but different times 10am-10am I believe in daylight time (9am-9am usually). The BOM in Australia follows that way, but 9am-9am all the time regardless of daylight saving.

US uses midnight-midnight in winter and 1 am-1 am during daylight savings.

It doesn't alter the average in any way though.

It could, if it was for example, mid 20s at 1am then dropped to 10C or something by 9am.

But that would never happen here, and if it did, it would show as a 10c min for the day after.
