I don't think heavy snow at 1500 m asl in early november in those areas is anything special, really. If it was early october that would be something a bit more special, but now it is expected. Nice coating though.
Why does something have to be special to be exciting???
I'm not saying it's not exciting, but so far I don't think it is historic or anything. I know these places or places nearby and I've already seen snow fall that early several years ago. Now if it was snowing at lower elevation, like 500 m asl, that would be historic.
Still, let's keep an eye on it ! I want my winter this year.

I think you'll get it...at least first half of it. Keep us posted!
Sestriere is the same place of the picture I commented earlier, it is the highest village of my valley. Anyway, I agree with forgottenusername: it is not something that will remain in the annals, it is quite normal for November at those altitudes. I would not say that it is exciting neither, but it is just because my dad will be obliged to do a really heavy job today when it is snowing, and in Saturday it is quite annoying.
Looking at the weather forecast, it seems that here in NW Italy it will end tonight, and within tomorrow evening the perturbation should leave completely N Italy.

I live at 650m of altitude =2130 ft of altitude, and the earliest snow in the last few years has been the 31th of October (I don't remember the year, but I remember that it was Halloween). I would say that in here to see snow at my altitude in the first half of November is unlikely, but not exceptional, and starting from the second week of November it starts to be quite normal. Anyway, the only months in which snow is more likely than rain are December, January and February.
In the Cuneo province snow at low altitude is even more likely than in here for example (in fact I'm waiting for some picture from that area, usually their pictures are the most interesting here in Piedmont).

For a place at 44N and 2000m of altitude any snow in november are nothing amazing, but just normal, the funny thing is because here in South America the snow are eternal on the peaks with this altitude and latitude.
Big problems here... Video with sound.. Ugh.. I'd be one of those helping out trying to stop the cars from sliding. Must be high ratio snows or ice underneath
It's odd that they'd get such cold anomalies so early in the month.
