I dont know, this Polar Vortex in Europe doesnt seem to be strong enough to cause very cold temperatures,a low of -3C in London are so exceptional? for a place at 52N that are nothing.

London is probably one of the warmest places on average at 52N for the whole northern hemisphere.

They don't even have a -3c average low in the coldest month (even we don't), so yeah, it is pretty rare, but exceptional would mean it would last for several days.

Actually -3C is low for London but you're right its not exceptional, its going to have an average low of 6C over the next 15 days, nothing very extraordinary about that in November either?

I dont know why but when i was kid I used to think that most of Europe were below freezing and snow covered all through the winter, maybe because of the movies, but now I know that it was only my imagination.

Weather, big news: series of disturbances from the north, very cold of northern Europe

COLD WEATHER: as expected, here's the cold for days is involving Western Europe is moving its center of gravity eastward. Thus is the northern currents channeling towards Italy, where the weather is uncertain and where the thermometers are dropping precipitously. The first, true winter sensations compel us to dress heavier and it should take the umbrella handy.

THE FIRST SNOWFALLS: obviously the lowering of temperatures results in a sudden drop of the freezing level. What does it mean? That the snow will fall significantly share, even on the Apennine ridge and the Sardinian hills. Locally it will snow around 1000 meters, in particular the northern Apennines center, but do not rule out some sfiocchettata until about 800 meters.

HIGH PRESSURE: just mention it because with its positioning will affect - for better or for worse - climate weather picture of the coming weeks. Looking at the mathematical forecasting models, namely the projections in the longer term, we can tell you that it will continue to be stationed behind that of Western Europe and its eastern foothill try to appear several times on our areas of the west. But he does not seem able to assert with conviction and precisely this position will expose you to the entrance of new Nordic disturbances. North Atlantic or Arctic, does not matter, what matters and that is looming delicious opportunities for seasonal rainfall worthy of the name.

TRADE MERIDIANI: we confirm what has already been written in other investigations, or that there appear to be all the conditions for a continuation of the current trend meridian. The Atlantic hypothesis, then resumed with the current zonal west-east, does not seem so convincing. Some people already looking to next winter by pointing precisely to the weakness of the Polar Vortex. A few hours ago, for example, we wrote an article in climate prediction on the basis of the "view" season of the British meteorological service. And the trend would indicate, according

The record low for November at Heathrow is -7.0c. A low of -3c would be considered very cold even in January, in fact it would probably be in the top 3-4 coldest nights of the year.

Gli esperti britannici avvertono: sarà l'inverno più freddo da 35 anni - MeteoGiornale.it

British experts warn will be the coldest winter in 35 years

Experts are worried because the mild temperatures of recent months may soon become a memory. According to the Met Office, in fact, could be realized negative thermal anomalies record in November, December and January. So much for the British Isles and for long stretches of the European continent. The forecast is so serious that meteorologists have put already warning the authorities and emergency services to handle extreme weather conditions.

Disturbances borne Polar Vortex (of which we are already talking for days) could lead impressive of cold air masses to move away from the Arctic pointing south. "Our systems indicate a high probability that the polar vortex can throw much cold air in the UK and in other parts of Europe," it said in a statement published by the Met Office.

In Britain, for example, they predict that the average temperature during the three winter months will fluctuate around 0 ° C, a value that does not register on site since 1981. To give a concrete example: the average temperature from November to January of last winter was 7 ° C. The first cold wave is expected in these days.

Continued cold in Europe, the first snowfall in the plains from France to Russia

I'm a little 'changed climatic anomalies on the European continent in this first week of November.

Overall it goes on the long wave of October that saw temperatures below average over most of the continent, but in fact changes the distribution of

Warm is located around the Mediterranean basin except the easternmost, Iceland and Svalbard, in the cold the rest of the continent.

Drastic change in the Arctic and subarctic Russian, went from major positive anomalies to negative opposite.

The cold weather continues to affect the rest of Russia, Scandinavia and the whole European central band from France to Poland. In recent days in these areas it is the first seasonal snowfall in the plains have occurred.

The snow has come almost to the gates of Paris, in the German low hill in Poland, and so abundant in the Baltic States and in major Russian cities, including St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Next week the cold anomalies should also incorporate much of Italy.

In the rest of the northern hemisphere continued to be cold in much of central and northern Asia, hot hand in almost all of North America.

4-5-6ºC degrees under the normal averages in Spain (depends on the zone). The maximums were highly affected here where I live, with 4-5ºC of difference than the normal averages for the 1st week of November (19.6ºC the maximum of yesterday) but the minimum instead was quite high considering this cold air mass, 12.5ºC which is just 2ºC below the normal average. Those temperatures were yesterday, Monday 7th November which was "the coldest" day of those days. A bit cool, with mid-end December ambient. But not cold in any way.

In The Netherlands maximums the same, between 4-6ºC under the normal averages (depending on the zone), but minimums were even 8ºC below the normal average; in Rotterdam tomorrow is forecasted a maximum of 4ºC and a minimum of 0ºC, when in a normal 9th of November the maximum would be 12ºC and the minimum 6ºC.
