Yup.. that's what a peaking amplified ridge will do. Some folks in the east grateful that it hasnt happened nor will it next 4 weeks.

For those unsure..
A strong peaking ridge = hot temps inside it.
A strong dipping trough = cold temps inside it.

Look at the 500mb heights to see it.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BISMARCK ND
101 PM CDT SAT JUL 12 2014

FARTHER NORTH...SURFACE
COLD FRONT INTO SOUTH CENTRAL MANITOBA WITH 3HR PRESSURE FALLS
CROSSING THE NORTHERN BORDER. POWERFUL JET 100KT JET STREAM WILL
SLIDE ACROSS THE TURTLE MOUNTAINS THROUGH 00Z SUNDAY. BEST JET
DYNAMICS RESIDES EAST OF THE TURTLE MOUNTAINS...

LATER TODAY... A DEEP CYCLONE WEST OF HUDSON BAY WILL SEND A
SURFACE COLD FRONT INTO SOUTHERN MANITOBA BY 18Z TODAY AND INTO
NORTHERN NORTH DAKOTA BETWEEN 18Z AND 00Z

ON SUNDAY...DEEP LOW CENTERED OVER WRN ONTARIO CONTINUES ITS
SOUTHERLY PROGRESSION TOWARDS NRN MINNESOTA
. MODELS HAVE BEEN PRETTY
CONSISTENT HOW THEY HAVE HANDLED THIS SYSTEM...

PRIMARY PUSH OF COLD AIR WILL COME LATE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY
MONDAY MORNING. HIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE STATE ARE EXPECTED TO
BE IN THE 60S...ABOUT 20 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE OVER MANY LOCATIONS.
LOW CONTINUES ITS SOUTHERLY DIVE BEFORE IT STARTS TO TAKE AN
EASTERLY TRACK OVER THE GREAT LAKES REGION

BY TUESDAY...REGION WILL BE IN NORTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT BETWEEN
AFOREMENTIONED LOW SCOOTING OFF TO THE EAST AND RIDGE OVER WESTERN
CONUS...WHILE HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS AT THE SURFACE. DRY CONDITIONS
WITH A BIT MILDER TEMPERATURES EXPECTED.

Current map...

Cold front swinging towards U.S. Wish I had July afternoon temps in the 40s and even 50s! I'll even take 60s!

White arrows are the direction the Upper Level Low will take. Current one will curl towards southern Hudson Bay then a piece will break off and head south towards Great Lakes then curl up and away. Northeast misses the true effects.
I have had enough of seeing NJ in a heat bubble. Here goes my whine.

More crap heading towards us tomorrow and Monday, and not enough cold air has been delivered to make up. Lowest temp so far is 60 F, which is still too warm at night for me. Around 51 F is perfect for a summer night if the high is 80 F.

Euro says no 90s north of Baltimore next 10 days. GFS says chance around 23rd. I'm trying to figure out if I like this summer or not. 11th warmest July here with constant mugginess yet only 1 90°F.

Here's Northern CT data from Euro00z. Do the temps look like mid summer? (column under 2M temps). After Monday mid 80s will be hard to come by.

Look at the dewpoints Tuesday. Ugh. 2.93" total from Euro.

Darn, is it ever hot! 40C/104F yesterday, and more of the same for the next 4 days. Not bad for Canada.

Not much talk about the above normal anomalies shown for next week. Can we call that a Solar Vortex? LMAO!

Same areas that will be 20 below normal this week could be 20 above normal next week says GFS12z.

60s for High then 100s

GFS12z max temps Hour 30 (tomorrow afternoon) on left. Hour 204 (next Monday evening) on right.
