Ithaca recorded a high of 68°F yesterday. There was a strong northwest wind (and airflow yesterday) in the afternoon. I think that would depress highs more than lows. Low yesterday was 48°F, which isn't as unusual as sunshine and 68°F.
Good info and yeah, I think your right.
Pittsburgh broke record low temp this morning. They hit 51F. I think records go back to late 1800s so even though its a daily, they never been that low on the date all those years. Cincinnati broke daily low too hitting 55 this morning.
Will be interesting to see how many we break next week

Nowhere near breaking the daily low for Ithaca, let alone monthly. Daily record low for today is 42°F. I experienced 40s in July there another summer I visiting — in an outdoor music festival. Only had shorts and T-shirt. Brr.
Average July day is 80°F/58°F, so the high is more extreme than the low but not by as much as I assumed. Ithaca is noticeably cooler than low elevations interior Massachusetts even at the same latitude. I'm guessing Lake Ontario is one of the causes. Though the Ithaca station is at 1100 feet, so the difference could be entirely from elevation.

1875, to be exact. 1953 also hit 51F. BWI hit 57F. Previous record was 59F in 1876, 1973, 1976, and 2008. Most interesting was the 59F in 1976, a much cooler summer, was still the record. Looking further, the lowest in July 1976 was 55F, and with a monthly mean temp (85.2/64.8 F) 2.0F below normal; the low so far is also 55F, but with seven days left, I doubt the anomaly will be that low.
Its not extreme looking but the air mass is cold for this time of year. Its the same as getting 20s in the winter for us. Not extreme, but below normal.
Upper teens-lower 20's are the normal in terms of lows for CNJ. Perhaps you meant highs in the 20's ?

Awesome stats as usual. Interesting.

Yes... for Highs.
As promised... Here's the chart a meteorologist worked on. He was working for a news station but I believe he quit so now he's actually storm chasing around the country. I haven't tested this but check it out...
850mb temps 1st column in Celsius... Surface temps underneath the months in F°.
So lets take the 850mb temps in first column and the July column. 850mb temp forecasted to be 8-10C next Tuesday so it looks like mid-upper 70s will be the High.
He noted some offsets like clouds, moisture, even elevation, ect. Bottom line... That level in the single digits is pretty cool for summer but meanwhile would be very warm for winter.
Only thing I see that could be wrong is... 850mb temps -25C and the surface only in teens in the winter? Maybe... not sure... haven't really focused on this chart. Maybe someone else will.
