Another storm rolls through Central Oregon. I'm having trouble finding good historical data but it feels like we are having an above average number of thunderstorms this summer.
December 2009 - March 2010 = all four months were below average in most of Europe.
No -30F anomalies though. Too bad
I know, 30-40F anomalies are reserved for the wacked out climate of North America thanks to Canada. Since 1948, at the same meteo site, Philly has had 7 years where the anomaly reached -30F. Avg Jan low is 25F, and in those years we reached -4 to -7F.

I thought we're talking about monthly anomalies (-30F), not single days
I'm not gonna diggin' into history, but in recent 34 years we reached several times when the temperature goes beyond that range.
Jan avg low 28F
Feb avg low 27F
Dec avg low 30F
February 2012 -13F (-40F anomaly)
January 2010 -9F (-37F nomaly)
January 2006 -9F (-37F anomaly)
February 1986 -7F (-34 F anomaly)
January 1987 -22F (-50 F anomaly)
December 1996 -1F (-31F anomaly)
etc...
Well it has been over 2 months since we have recorded a max below 20C, the last few days have been close.. way too close and it has felt cool a lot of the time. Seems like our best chance of some heat will be late August/early September
I am going to be sooo disappointed if there is any rain in the forecast for Saturday, since it will force me to postpone a family outing I'm really looking forward to. But so far, so good.
