This map still shows some snow cover but how long is that likely to last?

Just amazing.. What a year...May 26th, temps in the 80s, people at the beach looking at chunks of ice.

"A meteorologist at our sister station in Michigan, @JakeDunneWLNS, tweets this photo of ice chunks in Lake Superior!"

That's my favorite photo I've seen from there.

Awesome stuff.

I read on a blog earlier today (a met who lives in the Keweenaw) that the Houghton area recorded its coldest Dec-April period in history, with a deviation of -8.1 degrees F. If this was for just one month, it'd be something, but for a whole 5 month period, it's nothing short of incredible. Too bad it'll prolly never happen again in our lifetimes...lol. Also, Lake Superior is 16 inches higher than last year at this time, and is actually above average in water level, which is great news for the Great Lakes system which has been suffering dropping water levels in recent years.

Now, if I could only find a way to move a bit closer to some of this climate goodness...lol.

Another shot... Now imagine this... A year...or multiple years where the ice never fully melts and the snow and ice add onto it in the Fall again.
