Your climate is warmer than what they're talking about.

It's still cooler than Philadelphia by average temperature.

I disagree with the claim that people where I am, get super emotional about the prospect of no summer -summer here is reliable, with low variation.

Because you don't have Canada poleward of you, that's why your area is more stable

Far Northern Canada (i.e. Grise Fiord, Resolute) or Far North Alaska (Barrow/Utqiagvik). It's cold year round - either -30s (C) in the winter or a max of 8 degrees (C) in the summer. I'll take the hottest place in Libya any day over garbage like that. Even Siberia has better climates at the margin for me - Ungodly cold in the winter (-50s) but at least there is something to look forward to in the year with an actual summer.

The claim is that cool temperate climates have long winters, and short summers, causing people to get anxious about the prospect of colder than average summers.

I retract what I said about my summer being stable -it has about slightly more variation from average min/max temperatures, than Philadelphia.

You have more downward stability, but less upward stability, hence places like Melbourne that can hit 45°C easily in summer despite a 26°C or so avg high

I wouldn't say that Melbourne can hit 45C easily.

My point is that my climate has a lower average temperature that Philadelphia, and slightly more summer variability (up and down), yet this doesn't translate into long winters and short summers, causing people to get anxious, as per the claim from a few posts back.

The US northeast (of which I am a former resident) can easily suffer short summer/long winter some years, like the summer of 2000 and then winter of 00-01 for example

The claim was that this is a trait of cool temperate climates -if my climate is a cooler temperate climate than Philadelphia, then that would apply to my climate as well.

People are rightly getting anxious about this summer. It's on track to be one of the coldest and wettest Junes on record, and the forecast just seems to get worse with every run.
