Now it's 57 F/14 C. Freezing! This is a bit of shock since summery weather stuck around for most of September.

It's incredibly lovely. A good reminder that more good weather is ahead of us.

If 59 F = turning on the heat, then my apartment wouldn't need it . With all the cooking and partying hullabaloo, its easy to keep it above 60.

Now, its 74 without heat or AC.

So you wear shorts inside in the winter, and sweatshirts inside in the summer?

Yep - I had a morning in the mid-50s inside as I forgot to shut the windows overnight. Warmed right back up during the day though... Today was 59 or so when I woke up but pretty cold outside. Won't turn the heat on till next month at the earliest, unless we have freak weather like the October 2011 snow.

I wait till mid-50s and the temp outside has to be cold enough for it to stay that one. One day or night isn't enough for me to turn the heat on.

Because you've trained your body to work within a narrow range!! See your quote below:

That's only 6 degrees. How much time do you spend outside? If you keep your house within a 6 degree range, and do the same in your car and work in climate controlled offices and don't spend a lot of time outside - your body is acclimated to exactly what you've told it to do.

As cold as 15F/-9C inside. Drinks?

Even 15C indoors is too cold for most people, let alone 15F!

Because the exterior is colder than the inside, it doesn't need to be freezing inside to freeze the pipes; a temperature below 50°F inside if it's very cold out might be enough.

Sounds very unpleasant if still. That wasn't a real house though.

That's insane. How can it be too warm inside when it's in the 40's outside?

It's very bad for the compressor to run the AC at below 60 degrees, maybe get a better fan to pull the cold air inside the house? Maybe have an attic fan installed, that'd pull the cold air inside quick - we used to have one of those when I was a kid. With that, we could drop the indoor temp to within a degree or 2 of the outdoor temp.

It's 69 indoors at the moment, down from 71 last night. I haven't run the AC in nearly a week, although I'll probably need it by tomorrow.
