For example, today I went on the website to check the extended forecast and was greeted with a headline that read, "DIRE WARNING FROM THE WHITE HOUSE." Expecting something terrible had happened, I quickly clicked on the link, which took me to an interesting but wholly underwhelming article about how climate change is leading to increased storms and allergies. Seems lately they have been overdramatizing things, which I don't think they should be doing (see the boy who cried wolf). I get that they are profit motivated but at the same time I think they need to be objective.

And not just that, but the website seems filled nowadays with those cheesy headlines that try to hook you into clicking the link (i.e. "Eat This One Fruit and Never Be Sick Again"). What is up with that? Most of the links don't even have anything to do with weather.

ETA: Okay... I do stand somewhat corrected. The report referenced is I think a bit more important than I thought it was, but nowhere near "dire" as in the sky is falling.

Storms have been decreasing, so the whole premise is complete bunk and sensationalist fearmongering.

Oh the weather channel, basically a big joke.

On the note about storms, thunderstorms at least, have decreased massively in the UK in the last few years. Now it's rare to see 1 decent storm a year.

Thought they do have some good meteorologists who truly love their profession (like Jim Cantore), they are guilty of yellow journalism.

It is exactly why we need to prevent the extremist anti-govt types in the US from de-funding or eliminating our National Weather Service and NOAA. NOAA is much more professional and just straight meteo and climate without all the profit driven crap on ACCU-W and TWC.

I believe there was actually one of these tea party congressman that stated we didn't need a national weather service since there were so many wonderful private forecasting services. Only in America. Sorry for getting political but I find things like a national weather service just as important as the worshipped and beloved military in this country.

^^

The national weather service is a form of "national defense" from natural disasters.
