You did? That seems like a lot. Some areas in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire got 40cm+ in December 2010 - not sure about 50cm.

No its not. Yes we did in 2010 and last year. (Although last year only on the hills because it was mainly county Antrim who were affected)

Even if we've had a couple of very snowy winters recently, it's rather rare. Maybe once a decade at most. Didn't happen at all in the 90's and 00's.

Average peak snow depth is around 25-30cm.

We see it on TV all the time, winter or summer. It's pretty.

For the Scandinavian countries-
I would say Helsinki frequently- This is from 2002 onwards every month that recorded 50cm> snow depth
February 2004- 50cm
January 2010- 53cm
February 2010- 68cm
March 2010- 64cm
December 2010- 65cm
January 2011- 66cm
February 2011- 81cm
March 2011- 76cm
April 2011- 72cm
February 2012- 75cm
March 2012- 69cm
December 2012- 68cm
January 2013- 55cm
February 2013- 73cm
March 2013- 75cm
April 2013- 65cm

For Oslo, its more common than Helsinki, but not as deep
January 2004- 52cm
February 2004- 50cm
February 2006- 60cm
March 2006- 61cm
February 2009- 67cm
March 2009- 65cm
February 2010- 58cm
March 2010- 56cm
February 2011- 62cm
March 2011- 56cm

And as for Stockholm, 50cm> snow lying on the ground has only been measured once since 2002. In February 2010 (50cm)

And for Trondheim, the most northerly of these cities:
1 day on average each winter with 50 cm snow cover on the ground (Trondheim-Værnes 12m asl, 1971-2000), typically in January.
Oslo actually on average has more snow on the ground than Trondheim (below 130 m asl).

At once? Maybe once every 2-3 decades.

Annual accumulative snowfall? If not every winter, nearly every winter.

I don't know that we've ever had that much snow actually on the ground other than in drifts. Our average annual snowfall is just slightly more than that.

Tromso sees huge amounts of snow! As well as Kiruna (Sweden)!
For Tromso, since January 2002...
10 Januarys have seen 50cm> on the ground
Every February, March and April has had 50cm> on the ground
4 May's, 1 October, and 3 Novembers have seen 50cm> snow on the ground
4 Decembers have seen 50cm> snow on the ground.
Deepest snow from 2002 up until now was 147cm, April 2013

I've only seen that much once here in Denver (I've lived here for 9 years now). We had a very unusual blizzard just before Christmas in 2006 that dumped around 24" of snow, then almost a foot fell a week later. For a few weeks, there was at or near 3 feet of snow on the ground In a typical year, Denver will only see a max of about 4" to 6" on the ground at any one time. Typical snows are in the 1" to 4" category, and melt before it snows again.
