We had a power cut yesterday evening, on one of the hottest days of the year (no air con or fans) & it wasn't just my street, or even just my town that had a blackout, no, the whole country of Malta had no power! Flights had to be diverted to Sicily as for some reason the airport has no back up generators (or if they do they didn't work). Power was off for 3 hours then came back on for 20 minutes, then was off again for another hour & a half, before finally coming back on around midnight...

The cause apparently was an explosion at an electricity substation & some areas still have no power!

Wanted to catch some sun today, but it is a bit impossible when showers come across every couple of hours

Have just read that there are back up generators at the airport, but they didn't work

Not there at the moment, but the Buxton forecast for the rest of August is the worst I've ever seen in my life. Shame that we again only really had one month that was particularly summery. June was mild but cloudy, July pretty good. Awful that August has turned out to be a total stinker.

Yes luckily Palermo & Catania airports are fairly close by! The generators kicked in after 45 minutes apparently, but ridiculous that they failed, when power cuts are quite frequent here

August is turning into a stinker as is usual for Augusts since 2006..

Good job in less than 2 weeks I will be sunbathing on the med **** the Atlantic and the high pressure that decides to constantly sit over eastern Europe and Scandinavia during summers of recent years

Hot and humid weather feels very uncomfortable as does extreme cold.
