Help me understand the Designation of highway A1(M). Is it essentially like a state highway built up to motorway standards.

Hmm. We don't get frosts most mornings when it's very cold, it's more of an autumn thing. The boldest must be the reason, I use to find it puzzling some of the British comments on frosts in winter. Temperature is 29°F, dew point 11°F. Dry inside with the heat. Back home it's 21°F dewpoint 13°F.

Rather large gap between the dew point and overnight low (28°F). Either heat island / Atlantic Ocean or "warm" air mixing in from the west.

Sub-freezing temperatures with no frost due to low dewpoints do happen here, but not all that often.

This is one bitter-feeling day I remember well for various reasons:

Decoded synop reports

Clear sky all day, close enough to an ice day as makes no difference but no frost on the ground. It misleadingly "looked warm" outside then as opposed to "looking cold" today.

January 30th appears to be an ice day. Not much diurnal range there.

Youtube now seems to feature this annoying little drop-down ad that my adblocker doesn't deal with. At least it doesn't interfere with the video itself, I guess.

The way I see it, A roads in the UK are like US routes. US routes can be both one lane, multi lane, and limited access and crosses long distances, the same as A roads.

Yeah pretty much.. A roads are normally the main routes that are not motorways, they can vary from single lane traffic with a speed limit of 30mph to multiple lane carriageways with a speed limit of 70mph.

A1-A6 are the biggest roads and they mostly centre from London to the main other cities - I live near the A3 which runs from London to Portsmouth, it is now all dual carriageway, and has 3 lanes per side of traffic around my area. Many A roads are basically motorways, but they just do not meet the specific requirements for whatever reason

Yeah that definitely sounds like US routes here like US 30, US 1, etc. State highways here serve the same purpose, except limited to within a state, so I say state routes here are like B roads, limited in geographic area.

Atlanta drivers just don't yield for pedestrians even when the walk signal shows up. All they do is speed towards you, slam the brakes, and honk .
